The ÇÑ×ÓÊÓƵ London Board is elected to represent all of ÇÑ×ÓÊÓƵ London's members. Representatives on the board are drawn from a wide cross-section of the membership.

Board key messages from 4 February 2025

  • All attendees were reminded of the Respect Charter.

Closed session

  • Aidan Slowie, Board Chair, open the meeting and welcomed all of our new board members.

  • Lisa Elliott, Regional Director, presented the regional objectives and provided a regional update to the board.
  • Natalie Zara, Executive Director of Governance, attended the board meeting and presented on defining member involvement.
  • Mark Farmer, Head of Operations, provided the board with an operational update.  
  • The board agreed to the funding for board sponsored events for 2025.
  • The board requested activity to reflect other diaspora recognition months alongside Black History Month.

  • The board had requested an update on the ÇÑ×ÓÊÓƵ EDI strategy at the next board meeting.

Open session

  • Karen Sanders, Trade Union Committee(TUC) representative, informed the board that both the TUC and the Professional Nursing Committee (PNC) are meeting this week with a focus on pay and safe staffing. The TUC also has a further meeting this week as well.

  • Sonia Henry, PNC representative, provided an update from the PNC including work on updating the nursing workforce standards.

  • Nancy Ghansah, Health and Safety Rep committee representative, provided an update from the  recent committee meeting which included a discussion on the uptake of vaccines by healthcare staff and actions/response by the committee to this. Nancy also updated the board an activity the committee are undertaking with regards to Health and Safety Rep recruitment.

  • Jennifer Caguioa, London Council member, provided the board with an update from the recent Council meeting. This included a session on the ways of working with Council and the Executive Team.

  • John Considine, Regional Communications Manager, presented on the upcoming communication priorities for the region. This includes, but is not restricted to, a focus on growing political relationships, actions around corridor care and our response to the London Mayor's consultation on intermediate housing for key workers.

  • Duncan Mirams, Regional Organiser, updated the board on rep recruitment, engagement and support within the region.

Aidan Slowie (ÇÑ×ÓÊÓƵ London Board Chair)

Aidan is a Senior Nurse working in a large acute NHS trust, supporting and providing leadership to frontline nurses and coworkers in the NHS. Aidan values the diversity of nursing both inside and outside the NHS and cares passionately about the creation of the NHS, its longevity and sustainable future. Aidan started working in the NHS 34 years ago and has been an ÇÑ×ÓÊÓƵ member since qualifying as a Registered General Nurse in 1993. His clinical background is in Emergency Nursing and Major Trauma and has led emergency responses to a number of major incidents in London. Aidan has worked for the Department of Health as the National Nurse Advisor on the regionalisation of Major Trauma Networks in England, using that insight and experience to develop clinical pathways in two of London’s Major Trauma centres. He believes that building resilience in leadership is key and that authenticity, compassion, and trust lead to the growth of effective teams.

Jennifer Caguioa (Council member)

Jennifer (Jeni) currently works as a Senior Clinical Manager at NHS England. Her nursing career spans three decades, including five years working in her home country, the Philippines, and 25 years working in various specialities across the NHS in the UK. She is a passionate advocate for staff support and leadership development. Being the first Filipino nurse to join NHS England as the Chief Nursing Officer's BAME Nurse Advisor, she worked on the Covid-19 Action plan to address its disproportionate impact on the global majority workforce. Later, as International Recruitment and Ethnic Minorities Nurse Advisor, she collaborated with various international nursing and midwifery associations on improving the pastoral care and experiences of the international nursing workforce. Because of the impact of her advocacy and work, Jeni was included on the 2025 New Year's Honors list and was recently awarded an MBE for services to nursing.

Adrianna Ashour is a Senior Lecturer and Professional Lead in Adult Nursing at the University of West London, where she is committed to advancing the nursing profession. She incorporates cutting-edge technologies, such as virtual reality, into nursing education and strives to be a role model for future healthcare professionals. With nine years of clinical experience in fast-paced environments across emergency departments and hospital wards, Adrianna has honed her ability to make quick and informed decisions, while managing competing priorities and remaining calm under pressure – skills she continues to apply in her leadership and academic roles. As a dedicated member of the ÇÑ×ÓÊÓƵ, she advocates for nurses at all levels, promotes equality, and ensures their voices are heard. Adrianna is eager to bring her leadership, expertise, and passion to the ÇÑ×ÓÊÓƵ Board, driving positive change and advancing the profession.

Alice Denga (ÇÑ×ÓÊÓƵ London Board Vice Chair)

Since 2019, Alice has been working as Head of Nursing in Gynaecology Services at Guy’s and St Thomas’s NHS Foundation Trust. Pivotal to her role is overseeing nursing care during the patients’ journey with particular emphasis on patient safety and experience. In 2017, she was awarded the Florence Nightingale Emerging Leadership Scholarship. In 2018, she was part of the ÇÑ×ÓÊÓƵ project team that revised the education and career progression for fertility nurses. She is also a member of a member of the ÇÑ×ÓÊÓƵ steering committee for Fertility Nurses and Senior Infertility Nursing Group (SING), where she has been responsible for organising annual national conferences that play a pivotal role in professional development for nurses.

Jim Blair 

Jim is an Independent Consultant Nurse Learning Disabilities, Associate Professor (Hon) Intellectual (Learning) Disabilities at Kingston University and St George's University of London, panel member of the NMC Fitness to Practice Panel, independent clinical reviewer, and advisor for learning disabilities at NHS England and NHS London Region. Jim is also Patron of Dance Syndrome and on the editorial board of Intellectual Disability. Jim has been the Learning Disability Advisor to the States of Guernsey and Jersey. Jim is a Past President of the Royal Society of Medicine’s council for Intellectual Disability and has been Vice Chairman of Special Olympics Great Britain. Jim has been an Expert Advisor to the Parliamentary Health Service Ombudsman as well as a specialist clinical advisor to the CQC, Clinical Lead Health Inequalities at NHS England, health advisor to the British Institute of Learning Disabilities and learning disability nursing lead at the ÇÑ×ÓÊÓƵ.

Stacey Coxon

Stacey is a registered nurse with 7 years' clinical experience in acute medicine. She started her career on the on the Medical Assessment Unit in Plymouth before moving to London in 2022 to broaden her exposure and work more strategically. Stacey is currently a matron for Respiratory at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. She is deeply committed to creating better and safer working environments for nurses. As a board member, she is passionate about addressing the incidence and impact of abuse experienced by nurses and advocating for those who face these challenges daily.

Chloe-Donovan

Chloé Donovan

Chloé is a Continuous Improvement Lead working collaboratively with services to improve patient experience, and an Independent Consultant Nurse Learning Disabilities who holds an MSc in Public Health and Child Protection and Adult Safeguarding. She is proactive in bringing learning disability and autism to the forefront, to ensure that it has a fundamental place within the profession.

Chloé has worked on various initiatives with the NHSE national team including the NextGen Nurse, Narrative Coaching, Humans of Nursing, Art project and the Circles Projects, as well as contributing to the Learning Disability website. Chloé is an active member of the CNO Policy Network, CNO CMidO BME SAG (Chief Nursing Officer & Chief Midwifery Officers Black and Minority Ethnic Strategic Advisory Group) and UK Learning Disability Consultant Nurse Network. As a board member she is passionate about equity, empowering, inclusion and the pay gap.

Ellie Drake

Ellie has been a Registered Nurse for over 13 years, starting as an orthopaedic nurse and then working in outpatients, surgery, and urology before finding her passion in complex discharge planning. She has been an ÇÑ×ÓÊÓƵ member since 2006 when she represented her cohort as a student rep and attended ÇÑ×ÓÊÓƵ congress as a student member. She is an active member of the Outer South East London branch and has attended Congress as a voting member. She has been previously awarded a King’s Award for the passion she puts into patient care. Ellie is a strong believer that the ÇÑ×ÓÊÓƵ has the ability to affect change throughout the NHS and beyond.

Sonia Henry (ÇÑ×ÓÊÓƵ Professional Nursing Committee Representative)

Sonia is a Registered Nurse with over 30 years of nursing experience. Sonia has worked in women’s health and medical and surgical including primary and community healthcare. Sonia has held senior nursing roles, providing leadership and management within specific areas of clinical and quality governance. Sonia joined Royal Trinity Hospice Charity as their Director of Nursing in August 2022. She has worked on raising the profile of nursing, across educational institutions, recruitment and retention of nurses, including Return to Practice and International Nursing. Sonia recently supported the healthcare assistants to train as nursing associates into the hospice core nursing workforce. She is passionate about continually improving the representation that reflects the diversity of the nursing workforce to ensure safe staffing levels.

Anna Lynch

Anna trained in London and has spent the majority of her nursing career working in east London starting in acute medical admissions and has gone on to held various roles within the community and at a national level. Anna has always been passionate about reducing health inequalities and ensuring the profession continues to raise the voice for patients. She has experience of public office as a local government councillor and is an experienced political campaigner. As a member of ÇÑ×ÓÊÓƵ London Board, Anna hopes to be able to campaign for more affordable housing for nurses and contribute to the planned reform of the NHS and social care. Anna wants to increase equity of opportunity for all nurses in London.

Karen Sanders (ÇÑ×ÓÊÓƵ Trade Union Committee Representative)

Karen is a Registered Nurse with over 35 years’ nursing experience. Prior to becoming a Senior Lecturer at London South Bank University in the Institute of Health & Social Care, Karen specialised in adult intensive care and neuroscience nursing and held management, practice development and education roles. Karen has been an ÇÑ×ÓÊÓƵ Learning Representative for over 15 years and was the Chair of the UK Learning Representatives Committee from 2014 – 2019. Karen has been the London Region representative on the Trade Union Committee since 2018 and as a result sits on the London Board. Karen is the Treasurer of the Inner South East London Branch. Karen has major concerns about the future of the NHS and of nursing education and training and is keen to work with the ÇÑ×ÓÊÓƵ, its members and relevant other parties to ameliorate the situation and address the challenges, problems and conflicts presently being faced.

Anjella has more than 35 years experience as a Registered  Nurse, registered midwife and family nurse practitioner, working mainly in primary healthcare. She has an MBA from the University of Wales and experience in program management including cervical smear and HIV/AIDS/STI at national and regional levels in the Caribbean.  Anjella was born in Jamaica but lived most of her adult life in Montserrat. Anjella has been a practice nurse in the UK since 2013. She is keen to improve the representation and working conditions of nurses, with special focus on Practice Nurses in London.
Rosetta West

Rosetta West

Rosetta is a Senior Lecturer at London South Bank University (LSBU) in the Institute’s, School of Nursing & Midwifery, Adult Department. Rosetta joined LSBU in 2005 having previously worked in a large London teaching hospital. She is passionate about education for sustainable development, diabetes management and the management of older persons services. She was awarded a doctorate in 2019 her thesis with the title: Senior Lecturers’ Understanding of Education for Sustainable Development.

Rosetta is concerned with the holistic journey of internationally recruited nursing staff and is dedicated to promoting diversity, inclusion and social justice; erasing lifelong debt; facilitating lifelong learning; and an overall improvement of quality of life for nursing staff.

Aleynah Alghafri (ÇÑ×ÓÊÓƵ UK Students Committee)

With over eight years of experience in healthcare, Aleynah has held leadership positions such as Service Lead Practitioner at Swindon & Gloucestershire MIND, Service Team Lead at Cotswold Supported Living, and Expert by Experience Volunteer with Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Trust. These roles have honed her skills in leadership, improving service delivery, and using lived experiences to shape patient-centred care. Currently pursuing an MSci in Adult and Mental Health Nursing at the University of West London, Aleynah is consistently achieving academic excellence while balancing her leadership role as the School Representative for the College of Nursing, Midwifery and Healthcare and an Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Champion. As a neurodiverse individual from a multi-ethnic background, she is passionate about representation and strives to be a role model for ethnic minority, neurodiverse Muslim nursing students aspiring to leadership positions.

Noeleen Behan (ÇÑ×ÓÊÓƵ Stewards Committee)

Noeleen is a Registered Nurse with over 37 years’ of nursing experience. Having commenced nurse training in 1987 at Barnet College of Nursing she completed a BSc in Nursing Studies in 2003 and then completed an MSc Management course, both at the University of Hertfordshire. Noeleen was previously been the Chair of the ÇÑ×ÓÊÓƵ Outer North Central London Branch and has served the branch in a number of executive positions over the past twenty years and continues to be an active steward. Noeleen was the Chair of staff side at Barnet and Chase Farm Hospital NHS Trust for over ten years prior to its merger with the Royal Free. Noeleen has twenty years experience as an ÇÑ×ÓÊÓƵ Steward and is an experienced negotiator as well as an experienced ACAS trained mediator. Noeleen has held a position on the London board for eight years before being elected into her current position on the UK Stewards Committee to represent London.

Catalina Cerlinca (ÇÑ×ÓÊÓƵ Nursing Support Worker Committee Representative)

Catalina is a nursing associate and our representative on the Nursing Support Worker Committee. Catalina came to the UK 13 years ago and started her NHS career working in domestic services before training to become a nursing associate. Catalina was one of the first 1000 nursing associates after being part of the pilot programme and is passionate about highlighting the vital role nursing support workers play.

Nancy Ghansah (ÇÑ×ÓÊÓƵ UK Health and Safety Representatives Committee)

Nancy is a registered nurse with over 29 years of nursing experience, including 17 years in operational management. Nancy trained to be a nurse in Ghana and has been working in the UK since 2002. Nancy was a lecturer at King’s College London teaching Ophthalmic Nursing. She is currently a Matron at Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Nancy is both an ÇÑ×ÓÊÓƵ Steward and ÇÑ×ÓÊÓƵ Safety Representative. Nancy is very passionate about health and safety  of both service users and staff. Nancy promotes and leads in health safety initiatives and projects with good outcomes.
